We like to Kick Each Other

We like to Kick Each Other

So last night after a long day at work, (lately my work days have been jam packed and a little stressful). I came home to a lovely dinner that Dave prepared. It was yummy and healthy and I was very grateful!  Dave suggested that we get out our sparring gear and get a quick practice in.  We take Taekwondo together and it has turned out to be a wonderful, exciting, and challenging experience.  He is a deputy black belt which means he’ll be a first degree when he tests again.  He took Taekwondo years ago and now he’s getting back into it. I am a high yellow, I’ve tested twice, I’ve never been athletic, nor competitive (but I’m learning that somewhere deep within, I have some fury!).  After warming up we put on our gear and went at it in the living room. Here we are being silly one day after class.  We don’t wear shoes in TKD. Now, I’m totally against violence, it truly turns my stomach.  Thankfully, Taekwondo sparring does not involve violent fighting.  It’s controlled, protected and skilled (one day for me).  For me, Taekwondo is about challenging myself and pushing myself past what I may have

This Red Guitar Tempranillo Garnacha plays a Wicked Game

This post is brought to you by Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game (hello 1989!)  playing on the Romantic station on stereomood.  Now if you haven’t checked this site out yet I recommend you do this NOW.  Go ahead, choose a mood, I’ll wait… You’re welcome.  OK now while the awesome music plays you can read on.  I found just the wine to go with this song. Pretty label eh? Red Guitar, Tempranillo Garnacha, Product of Spain Price: ~$10 at Fresh and Easy Dave’s Review: The color is a clear bright burgundy.  It smells of strawberry with a “rotty” scent but still smells good.  The flavor is all over the place, with cherry, oak, varnish, it is salty and a little bitter.   Dave’s Initial Grade: D-  Dave’s Grade with food (chicken and horseradish aioli): B  Red Guitar Tongue Happiness Graph.  The flavor starts off kind of strong but drops off quickly. Kelly’s Review: I found this wine to be a pretty red and slightly cloudy, maybe my glass wasn’t clean…   It smelled of leather, vanilla, berries and melon.  The taste was very smooth, almost velvety.  It tasted of berries, vanilla, mint and wood. I think I even tasted some tomato in there as

The F-Bomb brought to you by Pinot Evil

Today we have the wine that fell flat on its furry monkey face. Such a cute label!  Such bad bad monkeys! First I have to admit that this is the coolest wine label ever.  So adorable, the monkeys seem to say “take me home, I’m damn cute”.  And it worked, I just had to have it!  But friends don’t be fooled, these monkeys are so so evil. Pinot Evil, Pinot Noir, FrancePrice: ~$10 Dave’s Review:  The color is a bright ruby red, light and bright.  It smells like rotten apple.  It tastes like a salty bad grape.  Coppery and metallic, like a salty sour penny buried in dirt.  Buried way underneath all of this is a slight cherry jolly rancher flavor.Dave’s Grade: F+ Introducing Dave’s Tongue Happiness Graph.  It illustrates the wine’s “roller coaster of flavor” (Dave feel free to correct me on this).  This will be a feature of future wine tasting reports. Kelly’s Review: Very nice red and clear.  Smells yeasty and coppery with lots of alcohol present at the front.  It really tastes as bad as it smells.  Wow, it’s like a mouth full of pennies.  Another glass? No thanks.Kelly’s Grade: F (I just couldn’t get over how

A Nice Merlot to go with my Wedding Blog Addiction

A Nice Merlot to go with my Wedding Blog Addiction

That’s it!  I’m cutting myself off!  I have read way too many wedding blogs recently. I have just removed them from my beloved Google reader and moved on with real life.  I can only read so many posts about fancy schmancy weddings and I refuse to have someone prescribe what we “need” for our wedding.  It doesn’t matter if we have monogrammed cocktail napkins.  We don’t have wedding colors or a theme (themes are for Disneyland).  I don’t care if I have something borrowed or blue or whatever the hell that last one is.  I don’t care if my bouquet is something I make the morning of out of ribbon and flowers from Safeway.  And what the hell is a chiavari chair anyway?  Nope, these things are not important to us.  What matters is that our friends and family are there to watch us say our vows, we make some awesome memories, take some great pictures, have a great time at the party, and ride off into the sunset, to Europe. I really like keeping the meaning of the whole day in focus.  Solidifying our commitment and celebrating the beginning of our marriage! I took this from the car on

I heart you Arizona

I’m falling more in love with Arizona all the time, mainly the out of town parts.  And although we struck out with the Kokopelli Winery White Merlot, I’m going to try their other varieties and find a wine produced here in our lovely desert state that we can enjoy. This is a nice photo that my nephew took while we were out on a hike at Usery Pass early this year. The Superstition Mountains are in the back, Cat’s Peak is on the right.
